Qais - Amman - breakfast
Striking north, we visit the
Graeco-Roman city of Jerash.
Built more 2,000 years ago,
Jerash is widely regarded as the
best-preserved city of the
Decapolis, a confederation of 10
Roman cities dating from the 1st
century! Exploring the site,
we’ll take in the colonnaded
street, amphitheatre, nymphaeum,
forum and more before continuing
to Umm Qais (Gadara), a dramatic
black-basalt Roman city of the
Decapolis with panoramic views
over the Sea of Galilee and the
Golan Heights. Overnight - Amman
23 Dec: Amman - Dead Sea -
Amman - breakfast
Today, we descend from Amman to
the Dead Sea for a chance to
test our powers of buoyancy in
the mineral-rich waters. Back in
the capital, we’ve free time to
explore. Overnight - Amman
24 - 25 Dec: Amman - Wadi
Musa (Petra) - breakfast
On 24 December, we head south
along the Kings Highway, where
en route to Petra we visit Umm
ar-Risas, a haunted deserted
city on the ancient caravan
routes, Karak and also Shobak
crusader castles. Merry crimble!
On 25 December, we visit Petra.
Accessing the hidden
archaeological treasures of the
Rose City on a walk through a
narrow, deep siq, where the
rocks finally give way to reveal
the famous facade of Al-Khazneh
(the Treasury), we continue our
exploration. Dozens of tombs,
temples, an impressive
amphitheatre and a Roman
colonnaded street await our
discovery. Later, an
Anglo-Jordanian xmas feast with
wine and cheer back in town!

26 - 27 Dec: Wadi Musa
(Petra) - Wadi Rum
On 26 December, there’s a chance
to return to the Rose City
before our afternoon drive to
Wadi Rum. Late this afternoon,
we enjoy a 4 x 4 safari across
the stunning desertscape.
Tonight tuck into dinner,
Jordanian-style. On the morning
of 27 December, we strike north
along the Kings Highway, to the
Muslim-Christian market town of
Madaba. Famed for it’s Byzantine
mosaics, including a biblically
important map of the Holy Land
made in the 6th century out of
two million stone pieces and now
housed in the Greek Orthodox
Church of St. George, Madaba,
its mosaics and little shops
offers us gentle respite. A
short distance away, we visit Mt
Nebo where we take in views
across the Promised Land. Dinner
