• Little Qualicum Falls - Hike to these waterfalls in a 440 hectare Provincial Park.
• Cameron Lake - A deepwater, glacier-fed lake filled with trout. Cameron Lake is very picturesque on calm days when reflections are mirrored in the water.
• Cathedral Grove - Cathedral Grove, the main feature of MacMillan Provincial Park, is one of the most accessible stands of giant Douglas-fir trees on Vancouver Island. Enjoy these unique 800-year-old giants while walking through this virgin coast forest and imagine how the west coast must have looked like before the arrival of European settlers.
• Port Alberni - The salmon capital of the world! This small town is situated at the head of Vancouver Island's longest inlet, 40 km from the open seas.
• Tofino - A pretty fishing village at the tip of Esowista Peninsula near the entrance to Clayoquot Sound on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Stay in one of the nicest hostels in the world, Whalers on the Point!
Tofino Free Day
• Pacific Rim National Park Reserve - Named for its location on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, this park encompasses a long and narrow strip of coast that has been battered by the sea for eons.
• Long Beach Unit - One of three units in Pacific Rim park, this unit contains about 25 km of beaches, including the marquee 11 km Long Beach. You can often catch glimpses of mist shooting high above the waves from the 21,000 Pacific Grey Whales passing by on their 10,000 km journey from California to Alaska.
• Hot Springs Cove - Vancouver Island's only known hot springs. 50 degrees C at its source and it cools as it flows over a waterfall.
• Activities - Try surfing, kayaking, hiking, whale watching (includes a hot springs trip!) or just hang out on the beach!

Leg 2 - Tofino to Victoria

• Sproat Lake Provincial Park - Home to Petroglyphs (ancient carvings in the rock) and the world's largest water bombers (they carry 27 tons of water!) used for fighting forest fires.
• The Bungy Zone - A 50m jump over the Nanaimo River. The first commercial bungy site in North America drops you into a scenic canyon.
• Chemainus - Has Canada's largest permanent outdoor art gallery. Today, more than 300,000 visitors come to town check out the 33 "larger than life" murals.
• Goldstream Provincial Park - Thousands come to watch salmon (mostly chum, coho and chinook) spawn here in the fall. The biggest run is in early November. Take a short walk along the river and find old mine shafts from late 1800s when miners took small amounts of gold.

Whistler Fact: Whistler is home to snowboarding's first-ever Olympic gold medallist, Ross Rebagiliati. Ross won gold in Nagano, however he is probably more famous for what happened afterward. He was stripped of his gold medal after a dope test revealed marijuana use. A few days later he was reinstated after it was determined that marijuana is not performance enhancing (no kidding!). Ross claims that he got it in his system by picking up second-hand smoke at parties in Whistler. Whistler is known as a place of relaxed marijuana laws and liberal use.
